I am replying to old post because I find this is as the first question infront of any beginner who has done a course (or self studied as a passion in my case). Selecting a dev. board (so called 'kit') is a tough task. Never buy a kit from the companies which conduct these courses or workshops because they are often hugely overpriced. As newbies are not exposed to the products from other vendors, they end up buying these.

One of my friend bought a dev. board(AVR) from HPES Lucknow for 2000 ( Priced at 6000, discounted 'coz he has done a course there ). And guess what it has.....
28 Pin and 40 Pin acceptor, Motor driver, 8-LEDs, Max232 and DB9....... and thats it.
Not even 7seg display/LCD or anything else????
Now compare it with above board from NSK.

Newbies beware of such crap products from such companies....
