View Full Version : help regarding choice of stepper motor

i want to design a robotic arm for an autonomous robot. i feel that i shud use stepper motor for this task as the coordinates of lifting and dropping location for the load ,that has to be lifted, are fixed.

can someone help me in figuring out which kind of stepper motor must be used for this purpose ie high torque, high speed etc..

thanks in advance..

1. Forget Stepper motors- they are not meant for your requirement.
2. Use Servo motors (the best bet!). The cost will ultimately be the same.
3. Or, use DC worm-geared motors with feedback sensors.!

steppers won't have enough torque to do this. If you want to do it go for servo which is quite expensive. In simple you can do it by attaching shaft of DC motor to a potentiomenter and output of potentiometer to ADC for conversion. But with a pot you can move at max 270, since your cordinates are fixed, i think this will be good.
