I am a newbie, I have basic understanding of robotics
and have build my own 555 based circuits.
Now i am looking to use my basic understanding of electronics to build a simple robot.

Any thoughts or pointers will be very helpful.

Hi bejoy

any basic book of electronics (like boylestad ) contain 555 timer circuit schematics.

Or you can refer to
http://www.uoguelph.ca/~antoon/gadgets/555/555.html
http://home.cogeco.ca/~rpaisley4/LM555.html

Try to use google. It will help you with this stuff.

first of all u have not mentioned what type of robot u want to make!
so depending upon the applications robots can be made using electronics and mechanics both.
As far as electronic robots are concerned there are basically two types.
1) controller based
2) without using controller (i.e. may be using RF modules or just IR sensors etc.)
555 ics are mainly used for IR sensor based robots.
