I have created the stepper motor circuit using the following link

http://mechatronics.mech.northwestern.edu/design_ref/actuators/stepper_drive1.html

the motor is in bipolar mode.. i am using Atmega16 micro controller..
the power supply to the motor is directly thru a Li Ion battery and the power to the micro controller is given thru IC 7805 using the same battery as input power..
but when i start the ckt, the 7805 gets heated up and the 7805 o/p becomes equal to the voltage of the battery which is 7 volts... This damaged my micro..
can u tell me what is the problem with my circuit?

it would be better if you give complete circuit because problem might be very silly which may be difficult to get by description only....... from your description i don't think there is any problem if you have connected all ics and properly........
still you can try following:
1) use a zener diode across uC power supply
2) use a capacitor(>1uF) between motor power supply
3) check if 7805 is working properly

Also make sure that you don't forget to put heat sink on 7805.

Well saw that people still are having quite some doubts on the stepper motor post that i had put up. so i thot to make that abstact clear i better put the exact circuit and the code here.
