hey guys, do u know ne ways to test a micro if it is workin or not ?? like i think my supply to a 16f84a went a bit over the edge and so maybe it burnt out or something. it wasnt programmed before so theres no test circuit i can use it in.

got any ideas ?

Pwr supply & polarity, both are very critical for a uC. Try programming the uC with a simple hex file 'n try verifying it.

Don't forget to connect protection diodes to the uC circuit.

i supplied it with a deadly 13v at pin 14. max rating is 5.5v according to the datasheet. so do u think its a terminal case ?

brother_four,
u may kiss the lady goodbye,she's gone..
i too learnt the hard way,lost 4 of 'em... :? :(

Tell you what..make a board for ur 16F84a's ,with a 5 V regulator[7805] and a diode[so that ur board wont blow ,even if u reverse polarities],jst as happy_99 said...

<weeps unconsolably>

dude that would be two ladies. i built the programmer wrongway actually. reversed the connections, so that MCLR input went to VDD. ya i was using two regulators, 78L05 and 78L12, 5v and 13v. 8). ah well, i wanted to confirm before buying a new one... thnx guys

Better late then never :)
Do you know how i tried to get rid of unsed MCU pins since they might give better EMI performance in a RF design?
I charged a high voltage capacitor and made it discharge it at once pin that helped in removing the bonding from pin to chip inside the IC, and here is the solution for a better EMI design
