I want some websites which can give me basic knowledge on micro controllers-what are they, how they are used, how they can be programmed etc. Can any one plz help me out?

why not read 8051 microcontrollers by Mazidi.
it is the best book for 8051 family microcontrollers for newbies....
it is easily available on book stores too

Go to Atmel's site. They have some nice tuts for each of their series...
