xboard is made with breadboard and PIC with bootloader and it is programed by online programmer called icodeusing c or (this is best part) LOGO.
It is super cheap and great for students.

One more find
check babuino project blog. It is attempt by a man from brazil to make possible to interface with legobloacks and lego language compiler of handy cricket of MIT. he also shown it by using icode. On icode website there is coming soon on arduino
