What is a Parallel Port? Is is some new technology Coming to PCs? Is is better than USB ? I am really interested to learn about it !

I think they are teaching about the "great parallel port era" in 10th class history.

Is it something like the great Floppy Disk Era? Those were nice days! Sorry but they Can't even Store a couple of snaps from a 3.2MP Mobile Camera.

A much more better system is a Serial Port + MCU Combo. As the Communication Line is used for sending commands which is processed by the MCU. As it atleast teached you the correct approach. When you use parallel port, you directly control the Loads with the BITs. This approach is not used anywhere in practice. Ex a Printer has A DC Motor with Optical Feedback for moving the Main Head, A stepper motor for moving the paper and the Nozzels on the Head. All these is NOT directly connected to the PCs I/O line, but a serial data transfer is used to command a MCU which operates all the Motors.

I do really miss the parallel port.
I wish there were still some way to put a couple of parallel bits out of the computer as easily.

Most of people use PP because its easy & they get a feeling that they have made a computer controlled robo.

PP were very good for starting without micros. and were easiest to acess, my first program was in Basic (followed boondog) and it was real fun !

Anyways, instead of PP people should go with micro + serial, as now a days this approach is more fesible and practical.

I also remember making my first PP controlled robot. It was great feeling. And obviously serial with uC works great & has a even greater feeling.
