im working on a circuit for dtmf switching shownhttp://www.instructables.com/files/deriv/FI4/QVHD/FSMSXV1U/FI4QVHDFSMSXV1U.MEDIUM.jpg

but my problem is how to identify tip and ring of the mobile jack

my jack would be some thing like this when strippedhttp://www.webewitch.com/CIMG6501.jpg

how should i just ifi which is tip and which is ring

although my jack will not be exactly as shown in fig but seems like that

can any one identify tip and ring of the pin from backside

my problem is with the copper coloured wire along with the red wire what to do with that

ring refers to the ground line (from the circuit diagram) and the copper wire is the gnd.
red wire is the left or right channel usually it is thinner than ground line.
tip refers to left channel or right channel of headset.

you can also test using a continue checker from the ear piece side.
