Here is a really good deal. A low cost pcb mount tri-axial accelerometer for $30. It is made by a Japanese Company Star-Micronics but they are not responsive. I got a quote from their US dealer at

Nice job on soldering the surface mount chip. I didn't even want to attempt it. So looked for a pcb mount and found this.
