did you set the correct microcontroller in the software that you are using. Also try to detect your avr first, you can then try to program it

Actually, your OS hates your programmer. Windows 7 doesn't allow communications with devices whose drivers are not signed, devices like the USBasp. Though this doesn't mean you cannot use USBasp on Windows 7, just google search and you will find plenty of tutorials explaining how this can be done.

I would suggest, you first test the programmer on XP and see if the programmer is working fine.

Yes, it works on an xp system fine. Have followed many tutorials on the net for windows 7 with no luck at all.

Yes! Please! Would be very grateful! But the problem is that my USBasp is not even recognised on a windows 7. No matter what i do. I could use extreme burner only if it gets recognised as a programmer.

Hello All,

Good news. Today I have completed V1.1 of the eXtreme Burner - AVR (http://extremeelectronics.co.in/avr-tutorials/gui-software-for-usbasp-based-usb-avr-programmers/). In this version driver installation is greatly improved.

*The drivers are built into the installer. So now it is true 1 click installer.
*Drivers for x86, Intel 64 bit CPU, AMD 64 bit CPU.
*Driver is automatically selected and installed depending on platform.
*Signed drivers! So no Warning by Windows nor do you need to use some trick to override Windows driver signing.

Due to these improvement it should work out of the box under Modern Windows OSs like Windows 7 and Windows Vista.

You can Download it from here

Happy Burning ! To AVR Community.

Your hardware may be faulty. It is detected under Windos 7 and Vista (thousands have reported)
