Hello I'm working on wireless communication for an automation project and looking for suitable hardware with the following specifications

Secure : encryption
Range : 25M (indoor)
power : preferably low power but not necessary
durability: must! an always on device
interface: serial/any protocol if possible a multi node(mesh) network with device id's
size: compact preferably no external antenna

I'm looking at the available options but also interested to see if there is any better solution need not be off the shelf product but much nearer to the specifications also willing to development around it for best results, I would be glad if someone pointed me in the right direction.

cc2420 ( TI ) - http://www.abacom-tech.com/%2FZigBee-RF-Transceiver-Module-EasyBee-P93482.aspx
MRF24j40 ( Microchiop )

I've looked into all the options, the datasheets are a bit confusing for the MRF24j40

Microchip MRF24j40 looks like a good option but all the options are similarly priced. somewhat on the higher end how different are they from digi's xbee's? there also offer encryption could you please tell why do you prefer the above options :)

go for wifly RN-XV
simple, easy to use, its wifi, just 4 wire serial uart interface(3.3V), Secure, very small size.

best part it can interface with any laptop with wifi so you dont need any external transciever
