Hello all seniors,

I am very new to electronics, I have a circuit board where I need to add 4.7kohms and etc resistances. I, have looked for them over the internet to purchase. I found few of them have 16v and others have 50v voltage rating. My circuit runs on 5 volts 1 amps. Can I use these SMD resistors with greater voltage ratings. I suppose voltage rating is different to the circuit voltage. Or does it make bad if I add resistances with 50v rating. Do I have to look for resistors with 5v rating?. Please do reply me.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Same value resistors differ on power rating and not current/voltage. Basically calculate how much current is going to pass through the resistor and choose them based on that .
