hey ppl..

thanks to vikas's drawing of that bot in the techfest discussion, i got this idea which looks funny..

well.. generally, if ur making a bot for a competition u have this size limit..
and if ur using more than one wheel on each side.. ur sorta not using the whole height..(well.. the techfest fall was what made me want to have everything below the ht limit of wheels.. if u get what i say)

so use say two wheels on each side.. and two over them. .. so effectively 4 on a side.. but only 2 touching..

well.. i dont like gear changing in bots,.. or havent got an idea of how to do it in bots.. so i can use the above arrangement to have the upper set of wheels to run at diff speed.. by the same motor..

all i have to do is figure out how to flip the bot over...
well actually only this may not work.. i will need an extra pair vertical..
so i flip by 90deg... get a intermediate speed.. and then again to get what i want..
what say..

comments and suggestions pls..

If you saw my design you wont need the flipping mechanish

as the wheels are big and can be run if robot flips over ( simple and efficient :) )

looks like u got ur self an 8WD :!:
i can't get one thinng in ur mechanism...
if ur planning to run one side[4 wheels] by the same motor,
how do you plan to run each set at different speeds?
gearing is one way,but that will fix the speeds[i.e 2 speeds]

Anyway ur ideas are real cool[never know when u need such ideas  ]

saw some really neat designs in robot wars, ten sports

this cute bot had 2 main wheels at one edge of base, and a smaller wheel on the third vertice of both triangles with tht edge, i.e. it had two useable bases

another was a 4 wheel bot with a very flat body. the wheels where thicker than the body height, and hence even if you flipped it over, you could still use the same wheels for locomotion (only thing the forward control becomes reverse and vice versa)

well vikas.. as i said..if competiton rules say that robot should fit in 25 cm cube.. then using 2 wheels means that ht of wheels cant be more than 12.5cm (to be precise).... so if u want lotsa gadgets and chips on the bot and are worrying abt flipping over.. the extra 2 wheels might do the trick..

and gerry.. thanks...
well i just was suggesting a multi-speed robot ...so 2 speed is fine..
in fact i guess that 4 speed one will be easier than 2 speed..
u see, only a 90deg flip is needed..
while the 2 speed one needs a 180 deg flip..
