hi i'm new to robotics. Currently, I'm working on a project regarding region coverage mobile robot. I intend to use tactile sensors for obstacle detection.

I would appreciate if anyone can give me more info. about this kind of sensor.

u can implement obstacle avoiding by two methods....
one is via ir leds.... but they don give gud range{easiest method}...

and the other one is via a sonar{excellent response and works for gr8 distances}.

u ll get all the info u want in the forum...

hmm can we use the tactile sensor such as bump sensor...I have a little budget for this project :(

if ur budget is low then go for ir.......
use tsop1738 as a receiver....
modulate the ir at the transmitter end at about 38khz and the receiver
will give u digital outputs....
logic 1:: wen ir is not received back.{i.e.obstacle is not present in front}.
logic 0:: wen ir is received back{i.e.obstacle is present in front}.
the entire assembly will cost u about 30 to 35 bucks only.....

About the sensor system design, I intend to use three of such sensors on each side but the back for job such as region coverage. The size of the robot is about 10cm in diameter.

a simple ir transmitter ll cost u about 3 bucks{atleast in bangalore}.
then tsop1738 ll cost u about 25 bucks.
one transistor,say bc547 ll be around 5 bucks{not sure}...
and one resistor... tats it....
ur ir module is ready... and all for only 33 bucks.
if u r using tsop, u need to generate 38khz either by a mic or by a 555 timer....

i hope u read tat "not sure" in the bracket after bc547......
1 buck is better anyway.....
