can any one tell me whether the current rating for l293dn driver IC is 1A and peak output current capability is 2A or is it 600mA and 1A

i looked in datasheet but it does'nt hav any info on it.also the texas instruments site says that the chip is no longer in production.

Texas instruments has the chip in production.Staus shows active.

Output Current:600 mA for L293D
Peak Output Current:1.2 A for L293D

L293d datasheet:

Whats the difference between Output current and peak output current ?

Peak means that it can supply that current in bursts and not continuously. If you did draw 1.2A continuously, it would get hot and the chip would thermally shutdown.

Whereas an output current of 600mA is its normally operating supply.
