    Default need help for ir sensor circuit

    hi all.
    i have to use an ir sensor circuit which works in a paticular range....
    the range of deteaction should be between 5-10 cm.
    plz if neone has any sircuit or any relevent material help..

    first tell what you want to do
    1.distane measurement(distance of obstacle etc.. from the robot)

    if you just want to detect the obstacle is between 5-10cm, then i think photo diode is enough. I got a response upto 7cm. I just want to test whether the robo reached the edge of table. If I place a paper or some obstacle around 7cm below the table then IR reflection take place and sensor says that it is not the edge.

    but it won't detect the distance whether it is 1cm or 2cm away from the robot and we can't say that it will be accurate

    Bibin,

    why don;t you resume your project on ranging using TSOP1738 .. it had started great !!

    Just use PWM instead of 555...

    first let him explain what he wanted to do. I told the simplest way and what I had done 2 year back. Ya he cause use TSOP1738 for distance measurement, but if the requirement is short distance, let him go for photo diode.

    Just use PWM instead of 555...
    vsmguy, tell me the least count you can measure using PWM using any microcontroller(PIC,AVR etc..) you had done. Can you measure distance with accuracy of 1cm? I am asking this because I have never done this one. Second thing is that the response of TSOP varies from 36-40Khz, how many different frequencies you can generate b/w 36-40Khz using microcontroller

    I use PIC and I have done 30 to 60Khz.. I think it can goto 1Mhz or more...

    I tried ranging using TSOP1738 but just for fun.. got "accuracy" of min 20cms !!



    Maybe bcos sunlight was present then ...

    Why don't you restart your project ?

    Are you sure ? I got TSOP1738 to repond at 80Khz and detection was till 24cms....

    Let me know more... the graph you used in your book is actully not TSOP but another similar sensor.. I think the picture is from a Parallax manual ?

    Let me know... this will be interesting...

    I also want to do SONAR ranging but cannot get good Ultrasonic transducers

    but still the range is very high 20cm too much

    that means we can't measure is it 21cm or 39cm.
