Default detecting encoder input through parallel port....

    hi group....

how to interface an ir encoder with computer parallel port?? i mean
taking inputs ... i tried it with the pin 1 and 14..... but cud not detect any input in dos debug... i was using the ckt, given by pulkit.... where he detected the signals in a calculator....
i cud detect 5 v output in a multimeter..... but, it did not show up in dos debug.....
do i need to put some additional ckt for the parallel port to detect
    those signals????

    Hey Subhasis,
First ,basic but easily forgotten even by experts, did you ground ur ckt..?
    [sorry it's silly,but it happens ]
Short all pins from 18 to 25 on the PPT connector ....take a single wire from 'em...and then short it to ur ckt gnd.
remember ...ALL GND circuits must be connected...You leave one..nothing will show up..

    Keep us posted

control port address is normally 37fH

i picked the parallel port from lying in the lab.... i thought, that might be a standard port..... actually, the input pins were not connected.... :x
