    what is a hole detecting sensor? I mean how does it work and where can I find circuits for that???

    what about using light sensor. When there is a hole light reflection will be minimum, and the light will pass through the hole.
    Go for LED+LDR combination

    go for tsop1738 and 38khz IR rays ... it won't have normal light effect ..

    You can do it with a simple IR sensor based on reflection.

    Too big, too complicated and generally unnecessary for such a simple job!

    I have used ir led+photodiode pair to control my robotic car using dc motor .

    So try this.

    10-12mm ldr and white led works fine
