Can anyone tell me which is the best drive mechanism(differential or skid steer) so the error in measurements(odometry) are reduced???

    Hi
Can u please tell what is skid steering. is it the steering used in treaded robot or vehicle. for eg. army tanker or earth moving machines. or does it come under differential drive.

Used in four or six wheeled vehicles.

The wheels on each side can be driven at various speeds in forward and reverse but all wheels on a side are driven at the same rate.

There is no explicit steering mechanism. The direction of relative movemnet between two wheels side decide the direction.

Good link robosapien it cleared my misconception about differential drive and skid steer. both differential drive and skid steer have their own disadvantage wrt to odometry. anyway let me know your choice. i am planning to build 4 wheeled skid steer drive robot for next sem project.
