Thread: ADC

    Default ADC

Does any one know where I can get ADC with sample rate greater than or equal to 40Mhz with a parallel interface? I would prefer a 5V device.

    Thanks for the help.

you cant get it in kerala.

they normally come in TSSOP, or LQFP. forget soldering them !!

unless they are pre historic, like the Bt218KP-20!!

at 40MSPS, there is a lot in PCB design!!

    btw, whats your application?

Anyway, you might want to sample them.

Well I have been thinking of designing a PC based Oscilloscope. I know its a bit far fetched but I have the design all drawn out, I need to write only the uC code and windows app.
The thing is I thought that my design should also help others build an oscilloscope from parts available easily, thats why I am looking to buy the adc, other wise I already have some samples.

You can get 1MSPS chips in the market. , some 16 bit controllers have them. like the dsPICs.

but anything above that requires clean boards for proper functioning. Moreover, your PC interface should work at THAT speed!! there is no use clocking a 40MSPS chip with a lesser crystal.

I have designed a circuit using a ram to store the data and when the memory is full I will transfer it via usb, The board design will not be much problem if I take somethings like seperating analog and digital ground, putting aground plane etc.. I am pretty confident about it.

I am also looking for opamps with bandwidth more than 40Mhz. Any ideas ?

@tijoseymathew: The Analog Devices AD9461 (clickie) will provide you 130MSPS. It is available here (clickie) .

I had seen it , but it is a great overkill, first of all the sample rate is thrice what I wanted. The adc is 16 bit which in itself is tooooo much. And lastly the package is not at all helpfull for hobby designers .

40MHz is NOT really a hobby frequency, unless you have the ready made development kit. And there is no point in clocking at that frequencies unless your peripherals are THAT fast. So your USB controller should be able to handle THAT speed.

High frequencies require shorter pin length, so the TSSOPs and the QFNs

as to the OP amp, Analog devices has some of them(and some of the best, I guess). You can buy online, or contact a distributer.
