I have a competition comming up next month and I was wondering how you guys carry your robots to the competition?
How do you take it if you are travelling by plane?

@pratheek: Depends. What kind of robot are you carrying? If its a simple wheeled platform robot, you could carry it in a semi-disassembled state. Bipeds, would be difficult to reassemble, so you need to carry them assembled, maybe in some kind of hard shockproof container. Bots made out of LEGOs or Meccano parts, bear a risk of disassembly in transit, so carry them in a hard case as hand baggage or baggage marked "Fragile".
It all depends on the type of bot.

It depends on the weight and dimensions of your robot...
If you are packing it in a box or a suitcase, during check-in make sure to specify the items in it are fragile.( They might take good care of it, you never know.). Also there might be restriction on taking lead acid battery, better check before.
1. Use your clothing to pack the bot.
2. Crumpled news paper is good material if you use a box.
3. Thermocol is a bad material for an irregular fragile shape ( as is a student robot) and will break off parts due to shakes & quakes.
4. Wherever you go might be a rainy venue. Cover the entire box with plastic sheet.
5. Preference to the Robot: you sit in the luggage carrier. ( or the roof-top).
6. Carry only solid batteries, wrapped in News paper iner and plastic outer.
7. Insulate the bare, naked terminals of the battery. You might prevent a fire.
8. Sponge is a good filler material.
9. Stick a label of materials on the box. Include a copy of the Event. This will prevent you from going to jail as a terrorist.
10. Good Luck.

 Good Luck Prateek!!!
Better you can dismantle the robot and then you may carry while you travel. It will be safe.
