Thread: Which Programmer should I buy???

Default Which Programmer should I buy???

I currently have a readymade development board (with a USB programmer). The USB programmer has stopped working.

I wish to start from scratch using atmega on a breadboard. For that I need a programmer. What should I buy? I just have USB on my laptop. Should I go for USB to serial converter, and then buy a serial programmer? Or should I buy a USB programmer directly? I'm looking for the cheapest alternative. I don't want to build it myself though. Please tell me the approx prices and advantages of each.

And to what pins of atmega are do we connect the programmer to?

This one is good value for money: http://shop.extremeelectronics.co.in...products_id=28 and works like a charm under on Xp/ Fedora.

And here is a good tutorial: http://www.instructables.com/id/Ghet...t-Environment/

@avinah_g ... but ur software is free , and is written for USBASP. And i believe u are giving it for free.

You get better price @ elcrom , buy that and use the gui from avinash_g ...

Also @elcrom you dont need 10 pin FRC Cable connector ( which i dought ull have one lying around ) . So you have it for about 100 bucks cheap at @elcrom .
