can i drive a robot having six 12v dc motors from a 24v eliminator?

Yes, you can but only if you don't want to use motors again.Your motors will get damaged & never work again.

I think he is purposely driving them on 24v maybe because of double speed.

Motors can be drive on more than rated voltage, but requirement is it duration. If they have to run for very short duration say 1 or 5 sec even voltage 24v++ can be used but for very long duration say for 10min+ continuous then rated voltage or even less should be used but for driving wheels 24 v will do as we only supply current in pulses or for short duty cycle for maneuvers.
