I am not against anyone , everyone has his own views.

Reason behind going for new generation uC is same as what we are doing today with petrol, electricity, valves used earlier instead of transitor.

We know that on one day this technology or uC will be counted in past, we know there is no alternative today on petrol, electricity that's why "save fuel" thinking is going on. Now a days Atmels AVR uC are also out of market, peoples are paying Rs. 200 for Atmega8 instead of Rs. 50. Just someone is still selling it with codes can't become the reason for buying it or using it, for some cases it is OK.

I think its not only cost which makes a difference its speed, simplicity in programming, logical thinking time reqd for the compiler which dont have inbuilt libraries like Keil also matters a lot.

Anyway we can't predict the duration how much they will last long but logically old one will get out of market first. And hece i made comment to go for lateest uC.

    You are right, Ullas,
but AVR (or PIC) is NOT the latest !!!
but you still have a wide variety of cutting edge chips under the PIC, atmel and 51 architecture !!!
I guess you might be referring to the old 89C51/52 chips, the 40 pin ones, with NO ADCs. Yes, they are obslete indeed. But the core aint.
    .... I didnt do it ! ....

But 89v51rd2 is 64 kb flash under Rs 120 ... Almost 8 times the 89s52/c52.

A lot of stuff can be put in 64 kb and at this price i might say its quite good where a ADC is not required. And it doesn't need a programmer either ... just a serial port will do.

8051 is a very easy to use micro-controller, with less instruction set. Once you know this, then soon you can upgrade to PIC or AVR. You can take up the book "The 8051 microcontroller and embedded systems" (Using Assembly and C) by Muhammad Ali Mazidi.
