please somebody tell me what is the minimum cost of getting a RS232 Camera module?
or any work around to achieve this??

Basically i want to build a remote surveillance robot...my MCU is PIC18F4550(It has USB capability..but it works only as slave.. so cannot attach USB webcams//)

What, are you going to do by attaching the cam to a 4550??
Are you thinking of Image processing?

It will be easy to help you a lot, if you clear your intentions.
    .... I didnt do it ! ....

No i m not going to image processing in 4550.I am planning to transmit continuous images to the PC through X-bee.I'll do the image processing in PC only.

    Currently this is my plan:

    1.Robot with a PIC18F4550 board.
2.4550 will be attached to the X-bee module.
3.Camera will be attached to the 4550 board.
4.Camera will capture and send the data to MCU.
5.MCU will send the data(images) to PC .
6.PC will do the image processing.
Please suggest which modules should i use for camera for this purpose??

    Thanks..in advance....

Havent done this since 20yrs ago...but why do you want a RS-232 interface... in this era of USB ?

The best recent system is the AVRcam for RS232, but it uses ATmega8.
There are other RS232 cameras, but not available in India. I suggest that you play safe use the USB camera instead.

I know this is pretty old stuff..i wanted to start with something...so choose to this 1...

Actually i wanted to use USB camera only..But could not find proper MCU and how to write driver for USB camera??

So i thought to go SERIAL way...as i already said my MCU only supprts USB slave..so 4550 is out of question..
So can u suggest some better MCU n webcam..(whose driver i can write??)

    Hi Pratheek/Vikas/Avnish Garg,
I was really wondering why don't you people synergize and have a common hobby store.
This thread may not be the right place to discuss this but I find all of you with a common motive and decently priced products with a good variety.
I mean geographically you people are placed at diffrent metros and rather than each selling same stuff and being competetors why not synergize
and have a common brand with combined products from all of you.
I think this way you people will be way advanced than most other robotics store who are locally present with much varigated products and better support (one person can't do all the stuff alone).
    Just think about it:-
    1) There could be better resource utilization (say the web page and the payment secure socket layers)
    2) Wider network covering are loactions in India(North, South, East, West). It could be a stratgic advantage as most stores are small shops in one city. the buyer is Psychologically comfortable buying from a big chain than small shop.
    3) shipping cost could be lower as the nearest center could dispatch the goods promptly
    4) New products could be developed for both hobby and Industry (I really like the stuff from Vikas and Avnish ) USB programmers/communication tools for industrial use could fetch you people big money!!!! As of now you all are wasting time , money and energy making diffrent version of the same stuff!!!!
    5) This will foster team spirit and most big projects work in teams only!!!!! Could corporates work without teams?
    6) Material could be purchased/ built in bulk and at a lower cost (chinese work this way to keep inventry cost low).

I know working together can lead to clash as well.
but whats the point in running things at a small scale and working at cross projects,
Be the big fish in the pond , surviving as a small fish is difficult given the poor margins in hobby stuff.
