If you are referring to the instructables bot, I don't think that the swictches, by themselves, are capable of reversing the motors. Spring loaded SPDT switches are not commonplace in everyday devices. But you may adapt someswitches from old hairdriers (ones which change the speed depending on the position of the switches). They are available in electronic supply stores here in kolkata, dunno about new delhi Hope this helps :P
Or you can make one yourself :P
You may also try and adapt DPDT(readily available in shops that sell robotics stuff) switches to meet your needs.
Thanks a lot mate, Yes I was indeed referring to the instructable bot.. Do you know of any other way of making an obstacle avoidance system, and can you please let me know of any sites for hopeless beginners like me?
Obstacle avoidance systems can range from the simple method employed in the beetle bot to more advanced systems that use infra red or ultrasonic sensors(almost like the echolocation that bats do). So for your first bot I suggest that you buy two geared motors,a castor wheel, few meters of rainbow wire and two dpdt switches. You will also need any 12v power supply(wall warts, old pc smps, battery, etc..). I can provide you with step by step instructions if you like but I think you will find everything you need to know from this site :-P
Edit:Add l-clamps for motors

First get all the things:
Motors: Similar to http://www.vegarobokit.com/index.php...&product_id=89
You need geared motors like this as un-geared motors just don't cut it for robotics. Speed and torque are inversely related. 200rpm is a good compromise.
L-clamps for mounting the motors to a small square piece of thin plywood using wood screws.
Wheels like http://www.vegarobokit.com/index.php...product_id=217
2 DPDT switches
A switch box(You can always hack an old tiffin box or any other plastic box)
For the power supply your best bet is to buy a cheap pc atx smps.
All you need to do after that is to wire each of the motors to each dpdt switch and tie the switches to the power supply.
This bot is the most basic you can get, and therefore a blank canvas. Google "skid steer","reversing motors using DPDT","atx smps wire diagram".
You can also check out my team's youtube channel for ideas:
You can get similar switches in a computer mouse [THE ONES USED FOR RIGHT AND LEFT CLICK]...
