    Question QRD1114 vs LTH 1550 : better choice for line followers

    I am trying to make a vary fast line follower.
    Since the 3mm/5mm IR sensors are very prone to ambient light conditions, I have decided to use a better alternative other than covering it with black tape.

    I found the QRD1114 from sparkfun.com and the LTH-1550 sensor. Both of these sensors have an inbuilt IR Tx and Rx and are easy to connect.
    The QRD1114 is a 3mm sensor while the LTH-1550 is 5mm sensor. There are some other minor differences also.

    The other alternative is to use a LDR along with an ordinary IR Tx/Rx. The output from the LDR can be amplified by a NPN transistor and then be used to calibrate the sensitive of the IR Tx/Rx. But the circuit is becoming complicated.

    Please suggest which sensor would be the best to use in this context.

    Since I am using a PID algorithm to drive a fast line follower, I prefer a sensor with analog output to provide a wider control variable in the algorithm.
