    hi i m building a robot which will follow a person and i need some one to help me in this project . How should i go on this project ?
    tell me the Sensors that i have to use and that are available in India as well

    Hi ashu,

    Great idea!
    The simplest solution is a 'Beacon' Transmitter on the Master which will be tracked by the Slave with a corresponding receiver. The idea is to use 'direction finding' techniques for short range.
    1. RF: very difficult but very effective wrt range.
    2. Infra-red, easy, affordable, short range.
    3. Ultrasonic, slightly difficult and a little expensive.
    The difficulty is making it directional. I have several plans. Post your preference and we'll discuss the best method in this Forum.

    Default using ultrasonics...

    hi docel....i'm actually doin a similar project....
    i'm using ultrasonics....well...the robot will maintain a distance of around 5 feet away from the person alwayz.....as he walks forward then the robot moves forward too...but the problem comes when he turns around.....i thought about some more techniqz....but need a little help

    Hi smart0730,
    Well, you have really worked out something!
    Look at it this way: A Robo or inanimate thing has no intelligence. You are the intelligent thing and have to infuse intelligence into the inanimate thing.
    The Slave follows you...as long as it detects you. When it doesnt, it can do several pre-programmed actions:
    1. Stop till it receives a valid signal.
    This may lead to failure. One way to success is to have a fixed 4point sensor(N,E,S,W...0, 90, 180, 270, 360)) which is scanned sequentially till a 'Valid' signal is received. The 4 point scan is triggered by the 'absence of a signal for some predetermined time -say 10secs. When Valid sig=1 then 'forward' else scan 0,90,270,360 do until....
    2. Scan for the relevant signal.
    This can be a rotatable directional antenna that is triggered by 'No signal" condition. This is active scanning and will involve a motor and gear that rotates the antenna 0-360-0 fashion. Round and round is not possible due to wire connections. (Have you seen a Radar antenna??)
    3. Turn around its axis (wheels) till it receives the Relevant signal.
    This eliminates extra scanning hardware( motor, logic etc.
    This is also the simplest design without additional hardware- the turning machanism is already in place.
    The wheel drive motors are logic druiven by the ValidSignal=1 condition..
    All these are quite simple Mechatronics, with or without micro and software. With micro, it is fairly simple!!!
